For those of you who follow me on IG, you will have noticed that over the weekend I had the pleasure of visiting Monique at Revive Spa and Beauty! A few weeks ago Monique approached me to visit her salon and treat myself to some of her beauty services; being the (novice) beauty addict I am, I couldn’t say no!

So Saturday afternoon I set off to Revive Spa & Beauty  located on Brisbane’s Northside in Joyner. Monique greeted me at her home salon and because I’m completely brow obsessed, we decided to jump right in with a complete Brow & Lash makeover! After settling into her beautiful salon room, Monique took me through the process that she would undertake to completely transform my overgrown brows and virgin lashes. (Note: I have never had any lash extensions, tines or lifts before, hence they were ‘untouched’)

To start the process we cleansed both the eye area and the lashes to make sure there was no excess oils or make up left over. To ensure every treatment is customised and suited to the client, Monique selects the correct size silicone rod for my eye/lashes during the treatment (no ‘one size fits all’). This rod gets glued (with water dis solvable glue), to the top of the eye lid and then each individual lash is separated, combed and glued onto the rod with the same dis solvable glue. This separation technique, Monique explained to me, is what achieves maximum lift in the lash and would give me fab looking lashes all day long for 6-8 weeks! From there we applied and removed 2 solutions, the first a ‘perming’ solution to lift the lashes and the next a ‘setting’ solution. Once this was done we removed the rods and Monique took the time to asses the results and make sure there was no irritation and the lift was successful. For that extra OOMPH! We did a standard lash tint to complete my eye opening new look.
For me, this was such a relaxing experience, while Monique was hard at work, I was lying comfortably in pampered bliss – it was a hard afternoon. Once the lash lift was complete we re-consulted about my brows. I LOVE a good strong brow! I spent 4 years working for a Brisbane cosmetics and wax manufacturer as my day job and this only fuelled my brow obsession. As I’m sure many of you know, trusting someone new with your brows can be nerve racking – remove 1 wrong hair and there is no saving them! But Monique made me feel super comfortable as we talked through what I liked and disliked about my brows, the shape, the colour, the final look. Again we did a tint (I requested a double tint, as I find that lasts longer for me), trim, wax and sculpt, leaving me with the perfect brow! Monique then finished off my brows with a final touch up (because nobody likes to go out in public with post wax redness) using selected Poni Cosmetics items which she stocks in her salon.

The final outcome was so perfect even my #instaboyfriend commented on how amazing my lashes looked! But not only did my brows andlashes look amazing, I felt amazing too! Taking the time to relax and unwind (while someone else was working hard), is something I think is really important to feeling good from the inside allll the way out. And treating yourself to these special ‘self care’ moments, whether it be getting your brows done, spending time at the hair salon, getting a manicure, any thing that gives you that ‘YOU’ time, is so important to building that self love and self confidence that so many of us are lacking. There is no reason why, at any size, we don’t deserve to have someone look after us or pamper us, and I’ve heard to many women’s stories already who just don’t feel like they deserve these moments or their self confidence is shattered. Which is exactly why we need to take time to ourselves to build it up! Getting my brows done is something that I enjoy during the treatment, and something that gives me a massive self confidence boost about my look. And if you have something that makes you feel THAT good, it is definitely worth investing in.

If you find yourself needing some me time on Brisbane’s northside, definitely do not hesitate to contact Monique at Revive Spa & Beauty and head to her IG ReviveSpaBeauty to stay constantly updated! Monique is passionate about all her treatments and aims to help every client “Feel beautiful from the inside out!”. Revive Spa and Beauty offers a huge range of services that will help you feel #prettyANDplussize

Ah, the off-the-shoulder. Everyone who is anyone is wearing it, has been wearing it, is planning to wear it. This is one trend that I am very, very on board with.

The off-the-shoulder trend has been around for a while, summer, winter, day or night; it doesn’t seem to matter. This is one versatile style. Also one that for once, does NOT depend on your size!? Remember last summer when EVERYTHING finished above the belly button, well I became very un trendy that season, I don’t make friends with crop tops. I’ve been rocking off-the-shoulder everything for months already and I’m so pumped to carry this trend into summer with more boho dresses and colourful blouses. As we head into warmer weather, this style is continuously developing with new variations and silhouettes at every retailer. The original ‘straight across’ off-the-shoulder still exists, but now there is the one-shoulder, the subtle-shoulder, the detailed-sleeve-shoulder, the strappy shoulder and the cold shoulder too! Couple that with the fact that this style works on tops, dresses, jumpsuits and jackets, how’s a girl to choose!

In general, my favourite thing about this style is it’s just a little bit of sexy. A little bit of shoulder is taunting enough to make your man’s mouth water, but feminine enough that your grandma still thinks you look cute (sorry grandma 😉 ). As i mention it looks flatting in a top with jeans, a dress with heels or even corporate styled as a blazer! With all the different sleeve variations it is actually possible to have the perfect shoulder for every occasion! I personally love a standard ‘detailed-sleeve’ or ‘full-sleeved’ for date night or dancing. Whereas a good ‘cold-shoulder’ or ‘straight-shoulder’ is perfect for lunch with family or a day trip with your besties. Just incase your shoulder knowledge isn’t up to speed – I’ve headed to ASOS to find my favourite ‘shoulder’ styles to give you a better idea of what I’m talking about!

shoulder1Embellished Cold Shoulder Shift Dress available here.

ASOS Curve Sundress available here.

shoulder2Halter Cold Shoulder Dress available here.

John Zach Off Shoulder Ruffle Dress available here.

Although I’ve gone with a ‘dress’ vibe above, with summer approaching you best have your off-the-shoulder tops at the ready! Super easy to style, these tops look fab with both skirts and shorts and my go to pairing – denim! Whether its jeans, a denim skirt or a pair of cut offs, coupled together this is such a carefree and comfortable style. To dress it up I love to add a pair of statement earrings, particularly if your neckline is quite plain.

If you have read my previous blog posts, you will be aware of my frustrations regarding my well endowed chest. While the girls are great sometimes, an ‘off-the-shoulder’ sleeve does require a strapless bra. Now if you haven’t found your holy grail of strapless bras just yet (note to self: another blog post), this is where the cold-shoulder sand strappy-shoulder styles come in, because ladies, you can wear a regular bra! If you head to @prettyforplussize on IG you can check out how I have styled the cold-shoulder top for maximum support and comfort. And f you take a look below, you can see how obsessed I am with off the shoulder tops 🙂 🙂

Until next time! Stay #prettyforplussize

BASIC: only interested in things mainstream, popular and trending.
My favorite piece this week is so absolutely basic, I can barely stand it. The last time I walked into this store, I was probably 13 years old and looking for some fluro/cropped/mesh/layered ensemble. Sadly, when I walked in this time, there was still a lot of cropped and mesh going on (we have moved on from fluro, thank gosh). If you haven’t guessed already, the store that I am referring to is SUPRÉ. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with SUPRÉ and their style, but let’s just say I feel a little old and a little plus size to be walking into a store like that. However, surrounded by dresses with the midriff cut out, and shorts so short they could of been belts; I found the beauty of a skirt.
I used to own a skirt similar to this manyyy years ago, so let’s just say I was pretty pumped to rediscover this style. The Super Soft Gather Mini Skirt – now something with the word ‘mini skirt’ puts me on high alert straight away, however I find this particular style long enough to even wear up at my belly button (where I like to wear my skirts) without being too offensively short. Plus it has my my extra favourite feature – the ruching. I’m a secret addict of the TV show ‘Say Yes to the Dress’ and the moment a curvy lady walks in they all start raving about ruching. The thing is, ruching is a seamstresses gifts to curvy ladies, so I’m going to rave about it too! Ruching is the sewing or gathering of material along the sides of a skirt (or dress) which creates soft folds in the fabric. It’s a little like smoke and mirrors, it’s a magic trick. It makes it very hard to tell what are fabric folds and what are lumps and bumps in your gorgeous womanly figure! Ta da!  This style on this skirt actually allows it to drape and flow with my body and around my hips to actually compliment my shape, hide those love handles, and make me feel pretty damn sexy!
As well as being perfect for my curvy shape, it’s also super comfortable and really versatile! A skirt like this is something that is so easy to dress up or down. Here I have styled it with a simple River Island Cross Back Cami and Target Lily Loves Denim Jacket perfect for a trip to the movies or an outing during the day. You could also dress it up with a sparkly top and heels to wear on a night out!  For an extra dress down pair it with with a trusty pair of Converse or similar skater style sneakers. You could ever throw on a band t-shirt or graphic tee to wear is even more casually! I’ve added some custom statement earrings (one of a kind sorry!) to dress it up a little extra and I’m obsessed with Kenzie Collective at the moment (I’m a little late on board that train I know), whose just released something similar and stunning!
Particularly for bottoms, I generally stick to plus branded stores as I feel my child birthing hips (as my mother likes to call them) are better accommodated for in those stores when it comes to jeans, pants and skirts. However it can definitely be worth rummaging through a few more mainstream stores to find little treats like this one. Other stores like Glassons, H&M and Decjuba are a few of my mainstream stores that I like to venture into. I find Decjuba also has some really great tops and blouses that seem more forgiving in the size department.
You can pick up my skirt here or see a similar Midi (YAS!) version that SUPRÉ is also stocking here. And check out (my awesome photographer) David’s stunning photography on his Insta!
Embrace those curves, watch their jaws drop and show the nay-sayers just why you are #prettyforplussize

So my IG post this morning (follow @prettyforplussize) said that I wanted to let you guys in on a few things, share some secrets and break down some digital walls we might have. Basically, I just wanted to have a chat a little more about why I’m here, what I am hoping to achieve and why I am doing what I am.

Obviously my IG page is my greatest portal right now, it’s where my passion and focus is. My original concept for P4PS was only an Instagram page, just to share my outfits and different looks with the plus size community. It was only after starting an IG page, that I realised, I had more to say than those little IG comment boxes would allow – hence the blog appeared. Don’t get me wrong, I am learning every single step as we go here, and winging it a lot of the time, but that is part of the fun!

The biggest idea behind Pretty For Plus Size was to break down the stigma that follows young women who fall into the plus size clothing category, that they don’t want to look beautiful or dress in nice clothes. We are seeing so much in the media currently about plus size models and runway shows and women coming into their own in the fashion industry, but as a 20-something year old who was dying to be trendy, I still felt such a gap. I can’t go shopping with my friends, or when I do, they wonder why I won’t try anything on (when they know how much I LOVE to shop). It’s because I know nothing will fit me, and I will do anything to avoid that embarrassment. There is approximately 1 boutique plus size store that slightly caters to women my age, that I will now venture into inside a shopping center, but other than that, I do all my shopping online. My realisation was that I am not alone in this predicament, that if I was struggling to find places to shop and buy new clothes, surely other girls my age were to! That’s why I have set out to share with you the brands I love to wear, styles I find flattering, stores I venture into and clothes that make me feel pretty and plus size! Along the way I’m hoping to even find some NEW brands and businesses that cater for my body type, and hopefully share those with you as well!

However it’s not just about the clothes and brands that I manage to get my hands on, I want to share  the other little things that I find help me feel pretty. There seems to be this odd misconception – built in the phrases ‘Oh you’re pretty for a fat girl’ or ‘You’d be beautiful if you lost weight.’ That we CAN’T be beautiful just because we haven’t lost weight, ah no. So along with the clothes, it’s about the details; my nails, my brows, when my make up looks good, all these things make me feel beautiful and good within my self. And at the end of the day that’s the vibe I’m trying to give off to you! So if I can tell you where to go to get your #browsonfleek or which salon is good for #nailgoals, then I’m going to do that as well.

I want to build you up, exactly the way you are.

I absolutely fell in love with this dress the moment I saw it pop up on my IG feed. From the gorgeous sleeves, to the gingham print, it looked super comfortable and easy to wear – a massive plus. After purchasing, I can confirm my first impressions were right! There are 3 things, that I love about this dress for plus size fashion.

  1. The neck line
  2. The length
  3. The sleeves! (duh)

So lets talk about neck lines – and boobs. I’m running Double D’s up in here, and I know that a lot of women are even more blessed in size than I am. I have found in the past that there is an awkward place between turtleneck and low cut, which for ladies with lumps can pose a serious problem! I don’t know about you, but put me in something with a turtle neck and I look like I’m about to choke myself. I find covering allll that space in fabric starts to look suffocating, and seems to make my boobs appear higher on my body, way too close to my face! On the opposite end of the scale, there’s the V-neck, or low cut idea. Don’t get me wrong, I love a little cleavage, but I would also love to put on a t-shirt with out offending my grandmother. There is a very fine line in V-necks that larger busted ladies have to be aware of – it’s just our life. So for this gorgeous dress to be rocking a high scoop neckline, I’m swooning. I don’t have to worry that the ladies are gonna fall out, OR that I may choke myself. WIN 1!

My second favourite thing is the length. Now I’m 5’9″, so I’m already pretty tall. Couple that with the fact that I seem to have the world’s shortest legs and longest body, I need to be very aware that a dress is long enough to reach past my bum. This one, sits a bit above my knee, in a relaxed A-line fit. I find this length perfect for both day and night wear, and can even sneak in a little heel on my shoes without making it look too short! WIN 2!

The best bit! This dress has the best sleeves ever! It’s a ruffle, mixed with a bell, mixed with my favourite childhood dress that was ruffle central! The sleeves on this dress are basically just a massive standout for me, I feel because all of the detailing is on the sleeves, it leaves the actual body of the dress to concentrate on being well fitting and flattering – which is a perfect combination. Besides the fact I need to remember not to drop my wrists in my food when wearing it, if you mix all of that with the on trend gingham print, there is really nothing about this outfit that I don’t adore. WIN 3!

I’ve teamed this ‘Stevie Gingham Dress’ (available here with a pair of last season black ankle boots and a pair of custom made statement earrings. I’ve gone looking and found a really similar pair of staple black ankle boots from NOVO, which are on sale at the moment! (On sale at: ) These particular boots are a length I love as they don’t seem to cut off my already short legs. I’m also digging the size and chunkiness of the heel, the thicker the heel the better in my books!

Due to the temperamental weather here in Brisbane I’ve thrown on my City Chic Leather Biker Jacket (which I am obsessed with), just in case! I literally searched every store in south east Queensland to get my hands on this baby so unfortunately it is sold out. But never fear! City Chic have heaps more bangin’ jackets that you could pair with this! (Visit: ).

A big shout out to David Rowe on the Gold Coast for these fab images. Check him out at and

‘Till next time, I hope you are rocking #prettyforplussize

Hi pretties!

For those of you who follow my Instagram (which you definitely should –@prettyforplussize), you will have noticed that we did our very first photo shoot yesterday! I use the term photo shoot very lightly because a) I had no idea what I was doing and b) I have no other name for what went on. So for the purpose of this blog; please refocus your perception of the word ‘photo shoot’ where here, it applies to me awkwardly swinging my arms around in front of a camera while my poor photographer attempts to make the best of my flailing limbs.

Basically, the point of going and getting some real life professional photographs was to try and capture and highlight some of my absolute favourite brands. Don’t fear! Most thing you see on my IG will feature terrible lighting, awkward poses, bad self timer set ups and dark shadows, but there will be the odd occasion that I’ll be attempting a brand spotlight and showing you my curvy clothes in the best possible way.

We set off yesterday on our photo shoot adventure on the Gold Coast, with the most perfect day on display. I had the huge honour and pleasure of working with a local photographer – David Rowe. You can check out his IG @im_rowey and keep your eyes peeled on his upcoming website David was absolutely incredible to work with for my first time in front of the camera, he provided just enough encouragement to make me feel comfortable and just enough direction to help me get the best photos – without making me feel like the awkward model I am!

As a plus size girl, I find myself taking A LOT of selfies (which yes, many of my friends mock me for), but when it comes down to it – I take selfies because that’s the only way I can control the photo: by picking the best angle and hiding all my lumps and bumps that I don’t like with a good filter. I find myself looking at photos taken by other people of me and being so mortified at the angle, or the way I was standing, or how big I look in comparison to my friends, that usually I avoid photos at gatherings and I am quick to ‘un tag’ many unflattering photos on Facebook. So to do this shoot was basically just as big of a step for me personally, as it was an achievement for the blog!

One of the biggest things I found throughout the day was how to use my best angles and assets to generate photographs that I actually liked the way my body looked in them! Not to mention show off all the dreamy clothes I had. We probably spent about 4 hours in total shooting different outfits and by the end of it I definitely had a little bit of ‘model’ sass happening.

Knowing that I have had these body dilemma’s on my own, I can only assume that I am not alone out there! So girls, I am voting GET IN THE PHOTO! Work out what angle you like your face on, that your left hand looks best on your waist and your right ankle should be tucked behind your left; because at the end of the day we all want those photos, we all want those memories. One of the best thing you can portray in a photo is confidence, and your personality, you will definitely find that my photos lack a certain sexy or serious vibe; I laugh a lot, I smile a lot, and there is a lot of hair flicking and showing off my nails, I do things that make me feel good about myself.

I spent a lot of the day laughing at myself, and how ridiculous I am sure I looked, but at the end of it we actually managed to get some cool photos! Through the next few weeks I will be sharing my featured outfits from this shoot, with clothing pieces from Little Party Dress, City Chic, Target and accessory features from Novo, Lovisa, Myer and more!

I’ve really aimed to share styles and outfits for every budget and size, and of course show off how we can be #prettyandplussize

Firstly, thank you for joining me!

So, I want to be honest with you all, because this blog is all about the hard side, the unflattering side, the upsetting side, of being a plus size girl; and of being me. It’s my first time. I’m a first time blogger and this is my first time sharing my thoughts and photos unashamedly with a wider audience. I want to show and help those in a similar situation to me that you can be #prettyANDplussize, and that being Pretty for Plus Size is not even a thing. You are pretty, and intelligent, and valuable; not despite the fact that you are plus size, not because you are plus size. As a matter of fact, being plus size, it totally irrelevant. Which may seem contradictory to the title, however knowing that I’m both pretty for a plus size girl, and pretty for a regular girl too is only just a recent realisation for me.

I’m sure I am not the only one, who has been told “Oh, you’re so pretty for a fat girl.” Or “Wow, you’d be so beautiful if you lost some weight.” Unfortunately these comments come from absolutely everyone, the media, strangers, sometimes even the people closest to us. Even more than that, a lot of these people believe that those statements are true, and that can be so detrimental to our own mental health. So I’m sort of here to try and help build you up, encourage, support and empower you, and hopefully create a community of like minded women to get behind you as well!

Being someone who enjoys fashion, shopping and selfies, and being a 20-something girl who like to go out with friends, go on dates, go to bars, and generally be social; I have always found myself struggling to find stores that provide younger plus size girls with attractive options, if any options at all! I find that many plus size stores are catered to older women, or assume that ‘bigger’ girls don’t want to wear things that hug their figure! (Hell no! My body curves like the coastline of Amalfi, Italy, everyone wants to see that!) So I spend a lot of my time trolling websites and online stores that sell clothes that are both flattering to my body shape and appealing to my eye and personality. The recent social surge in businesses on Instagram certainly makes my life a lot easier to do this, so I wanted to share the stores, their clothes, as well as my own tips and tricks on putting together a bangin’ look, with you! Along the way, we’ll probably talk relationships, design (I’m a graphic designer by trade), food and PCOS as well,  but hopefully, some of that will strike your interest and you will keep coming back.

Until next time, make sure you follow me on Instagram for daily outfit inspo and general life hacks!
